About Me

Hello, I'm Tim Hanneman. With over a decade of experience in aquatics,
I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in lifeguarding, swim instruction,
and aquatic program management. Here's a brief overview of my journey:

Early Beginnings

I learned to swim as a child, enough to stay safe in the apartment complex pool.
In 5th grade, I discovered that my teacher, Mr. Hill, and his wife, Mrs. Hill,
coached the swim team. Inspired by my 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Hill, who coached the
local swim team, I joined the summer club swim team and continued to swim competitively
throughout high school.

Coaching and Lifeguarding

During high school summers, I worked at BSA Scout Camps and volunteered to teach introductory
swimming to new team members. I earned my BSA lifeguard certification in 2006 at
Camp Kern. In 2007, I was hired by Pico Blanco Scout Reservation (PBSR) as a lifeguard,
a role I held until 2015. My experience at PBSR honed my skills in water safety,
emergency response, and lifeguard management.

Aquatics Director

In 2015, I became a certified BSA Aquatics Instructor and Aquatics Director,
working at Camp Oljato and PBSR. In 2018, I took on the role of Aquatics Director
at Camp Hi-Sierra. After my certifications expired in 2020, I recertified through
the Red Cross in 2024 as a Lifeguarding Instructor. My leadership roles have equipped
me with the ability to design and implement comprehensive aquatic programs, ensuring
safety and fostering a love for swimming in participants of all ages.

Specialties and Other Interests

My specialty at camp was teaching the Canoeing course, but I also instructed in various other areas, including:

Non-Swimmer Instruction
Swimming Merit Badge
Lifesaving Merit Badge
Rowing Merit Badge
Kayaking Merit Badge
Stand-up Paddle Board
Polar-Bear Swim
Mile Swim
Snorkeling

Beyond aquatics, I've also been involved in Soccer, Cross Country, Track & Field, Tai Chi, Yoga, and am currently learning Tae Kwon Do.
These diverse experiences have enhanced my ability to adapt to different environments and work with individuals of varying skill levels.
